Typhoon

Hyuga's summer months are the peak season for typhoons, from July through September. Typhoons can bring high winds, rain, and occasional flooding, so please do not go outside during a typhoon unless you need to. Please pay attention to radio or television broadcasts.

Typhoons form in the Pacific Ocean, so there is plenty of advanced warning before it makes landfall. For your safety, it is important to prepare accordingly.

Preparing for a typhoon

・Objects that are outside can get blown around in the winds and break or become debris, so please anchor them to something or bring them inside.

・One major hazard during a typhoon is broken windows. You should close the storm shutters on your windows. If your residence does not have storm shutters or you cannot close them, you should secure your windows by placing masking tape in an “X" on them. This helps prevent the window from shattering.

・Typhoons can cause utilities (water, electricity, gas, and phone) to be cut. Emergency kits and spare food and water are highly recommended. You should have a wireless radio so you can listen to weather forecasts.
